Ask the archivist for specialized guides and bibliographies that describe NARA holdings by war. Don't forget to ask about WWI draft registration records.

Military records in NARA from the 20th Century are located at the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis, MO. Earlier records are located at the National Archives in Washington, D.C.. Forms for requesting veteran's records from both locations are available at NARA and online.

Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS)

U.S. Military Records. Available at Family History Centers.

The LDS collection is the largest collection of genealogical material in the world and is worldwide in scope. Numerous microfilm reels of military records are available for loan for a nominal fee.

Lists of American service personnel killed in the Korean and Vietnam War are available here.

WWI Draft Registration Records for Philadelphia, on microfilm, are available here.

Internet

Ancestry.com has a large collection of military records online. This database provides subscription-only access. We do not provide access at FLP. It can be accessed for free at the National Archives - Mid-Atlantic Branchand at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania upon paying a small entrance fee.

Cyndi's List of Genealogical Sites on the Internet provides a large updated directory of web sites for military records. Sub-sections include Military Resources Worldwide, World War I, and World War II.
