Nikki Giovanni is a world-renowned poet, activist, and educator whose poems emerged during the civil rights and Black Arts Movements of the 1960s. One of the most celebrated and influential poets of the era, Giovanni has created a vibrant and accessible body of work that includes the collections Black Feeling, Black Talk, Black Judgment; Those Who Ride the Night Winds; and Quilting the Black-Eyed Pea. Giovanni won the Langston Hughes Medal for Outstanding Poetry and was identified by Oprah Winfrey as one of 25 "Living Legends." Acolytes is her latest collection of poems.
