W. Wilson Goode, Charles E. Lewis, Jr, and Harold Dean Trulear address the effects of incarceration on families and communities in Ministry with Prisoners and Families: The Way Forward. Challenging African American churches to provide support, the book provides model ministries that focus on the transition back into homes and society. American Baptist minister and former Philadelphia mayor W. Wilson Goode, Sr. created and manages the Amachi Mentoring Program, working with children of prisoners. He is the author of In Goode Faith and Building from the Group Up: Creating Effective Programs to Mentor Children of Prisoners. Charles E. Lewis, Jr. completed his Ph.D. at Columbia University with a dissertation entitled, “The Negative Effects of Incarceration on Fathers in Fragile Families.”  He serves as Deputy Chief of Staff for Congressman Edolphus Towns and as president of the board of directors for the Mental Health Association of the District of Columbia. Harold Dean Trulear is Director of the Healing Communities Prison Ministry and Prisoner Reentry Project of the Philadelphia Leadership Foundation. He is also founding president of GLOBE (God Leading Our Best Efforts) Ministries, a youth services agency in Philadelphia.
