Public Engagement Manager: Full-time Permanent

The Public Engagement Manager will be an entrepreneurial and energetic member of the Free Library of Philadelphia’s Community and Public Programs Team. The Manager will have exceptional writing skills and multi-media skills, as well as events and logistics experience. They will provide support for the programs and projects of the Public Programs office including the promotion and management of speaker series events and community programming.

The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented team player with strong organizational, interpersonal, writing, and video editing skills and have an interest in contemporary writing coupled with an avidity for event management. This position requires the ability to creatively solve problems and to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

Program Management and Support:

  • Program Promotion
    • Draft all written materials, including program descriptions, brochure and web copy, author introductions, inter-office communications, and other printed material
    • Edit and post 120+ Author Event videos
    • Create event-based video shorts for web distribution across social media platforms
    • Distribute podcasts to ancillary sites
    • Manage and write content for all social media platforms
    • Post upcoming Author Events on high-profile local websites
  • Program and Event Planning
    • Support the Managing Director in a variety of programming planning and program management tasks
    • Under the guidance of the Managing Director, take the lead on driving forward standalone programs and events as appropriate
  • Program and Event Logistics
    • Manage volunteers who support speaker series and community programming
    • Assist in patron management during all stages of event production
    • Manage and assist authors during events
    • Introduce and interview authors on stage: moderate Q&A’s as assigned
    • Set up and clean up of library spaces before and after events
    • Ensure positive audience experiences for all patrons from donors and Peppers to signing line participants
    • Serve as primary Author Events representative to audio/video, building, and volunteer staff

Fundraising and Resource Development:

  • Foster a culture of philanthropy mindset, actively engaging in fundraising efforts organized or attended by staff, and promoting the organization's mission and values in and outside the organization including but not limited to supporting the mission of the Foundation by promoting membership and promoting and attending events when appropriate
  • Engage with members, donors, and supports in attendance at events
  • Additional responsibilities include fostering a culture of philanthropy mindset, actively engaging in fundraising efforts organized or attended by staff, and promoting the organization's mission and values in and outside the organization including but not limited to supporting the mission of the Foundation by promoting membership and promoting and attending events when appropriate

Administrative and General:

  • Support the Managing Director in tracking expenses and revenue related to the public programming series
  • Other office duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • College degree with a minimum of 2 years experience in event management, publishing, non-profit, or marketing required
  • The prospective employee will have successful logistical, promotional, and financial tracking skills in support of public programming and have a well-developed stage presence
  • Experience in project management
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, video editing software as well as social media and basic HTML familiarity required
  • Self-starter with excellent judgment and time management
  • Proven track record of great customer service with a diverse public
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, coupled with the ability to engage an audience
  • Evidence of ability to multi-task with attention to details and logistics, including volunteer management
  • Aptitude for collaborative work within a dedicated team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Office database systems
  • Proficiency in video editing
  • Experience using social media and other platforms to promote events and programs
  • Flexibility for evening commitments and occasional weekends

The Foundation is instrumental in raising capital funds through private sources for the renovation and improvement of Parkway Central Library and several of the neighborhood libraries.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
