Independence Branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia to Reopen
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, February 21, 2007: This evening, the Free Library of Philadelphia announced that the Independence Branch of the Free Library will reopen on Friday, February 23, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. Located on 18 S. 7th Street, the Independence Branch has been closed since February 11th due to a burst sprinkler pipe which flooded the floor of the library. The pipe has been repaired and the cleanup has progressed to the point where the branch can reopen to the public. The Library is pleased to report that the book collection was not damaged.
The Independence Branch library is the busiest neighborhood branch library in the Free Library system, and circulates more than 200,000 items annually. It serves people from Center City, including the Washington Square West and Chinatown neighborhoods. The staff at the Independence branch looks forward to reopening its doors and meeting the needs of the community with books, audio-visual materials, free internet access and programs for adults and children.
