15 Local Companies Will Recruit During Job Fair at Parkway Central

PHILADELPHIA, March 27, 2009—With today’s alarming unemployment rates, there is no better time to help connect the unemployed and underemployed with area companies looking to recruit new employees. On Wednesday, April 8, the Workplace at the Parkway Central Library will host an entry-level job fair from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. With 15 companies from the Philadelphia region participating, there will be plenty of opportunities for those looking for a job to learn about open positions, talk to prospective employers, and share their résumés.

Participating companies include the Philadelphia Federal Credit Union, Philadelphia Gas Works, Holy Redeemer Hospital, Citizens Bank, Philadelphia Coca-Cola Bottling Company, SEPTA, Temple University, and Marketplace Philadelphia at the Philadelphia International Airport. The Job Fair is free and open to the public. Jobseekers should come prepared:

• Bring copies of their résumés
• Wear business attire
• Request a timed ticket for the Job Fair prior to April 8 (call 215- 686-5436 or stop by the Workplace at the Parkway Central Library).

Computers will be available for attendees to complete online applications, set up email accounts, and prepare résumés. Additionally, representatives from two organizations that provide career clothing to men and women transitioning to work—Career Wardrobe and Menzfit— will be on hand to discuss their interview clothing services.

The Workplace in the Parkway Central Library is a valuable resource center for job seekers and those wishing to explore new career options. It provides free access to computers for job searching and skill-building exercises, résumé and cover letter preparation, and assistance with job applications online, as well as career print materials, including books, magazines, and newspapers. Librarians are available to present workshops for school groups and agencies on topics related to careers and job searching. The Workplace is located in the Education, Philosophy, and Religion Department on the second floor of the Parkway Central Library, 1901 Vine Street. For more information, call Paul Savedow at 215-686-5436.

The Workplace Entry-Level Job fair is made possible by a generous grant from Citizens Bank Foundation.
