FIRST BORROWERS (UN)BALL INVITES GUESTS TO SUPPORT FREE LIBRARY BY READING AT HOME
By minimizing costs of annual gala, Free Library ensures ticket proceeds directly benefit Library programs and services
PHILADELPHIA, September 16, 2009—In lieu of its annual gala this year, the Free Library of Philadelphia is inviting guests to the first Borrowers (un)Ball, an opportunity to support the Library’s programs and services without leaving home. As with the Free Library’s traditional Borrowers Ball, guests are invited to purchase tickets and tables at several price points, but with this year’s new twist, the majority of (un)ticket and (un)table proceeds directly benefit the Library’s programs.
Borrowers (un)Ball guests are encouraged to curl up in the coziest corner of their home with a great read on Saturday, November 7, and by cutting the cost of hosting an elegant gala , the Library allows (un)Ball guests to maximize the support of their ticket proceeds. The Free Library urges Philadelphians to contribute what they would typically spend during an evening out on the town—instead of dinner and a performance, donors can help support Library programs and services, such as after-school homework help, computer literacy classes, job-search and résumé-writing workshops, and events featuring award-winning authors.
This year, the Free Library is offering (un)tickets and (un)tables at four price levels—each purchase is complete with a thank-you package for guests to enjoy at home during the night of the Borrowers (un)Ball. Bookmarks, books, and hot chocolate are some of the gifts guests can enjoy while reading; and higher level (un)table purchases include invitations to dine with celebrated authors during the Spring 2010 Author Events series.
