Free Library Offers New Monday-Saturday Service Schedule
Branch-pairing model allows Free Library to offer six days of service in every neighborhood beginning October 5
PHILADELPHIA, September 25, 2009—The Free Library of Philadelphia announces a new schedule of neighborhood service beginning Monday, October 5, just weeks after narrowly avoiding a system-wide shutdown due to a State legislative impasse.
“As the Free Library of Opportunity, our mission has always been to provide the best service possible throughout the community,” said Free Library President and Director Siobhan A. Reardon. “Even given our present financial constraints, the Free Library’s goal is to continue to provide library service Monday through Saturday for the thousands of Philadelphians who depend on us for job-search resources, after-school homework help, and free access to computers and the internet.”
The Free Library meets this goal by pairing neighborhood libraries, with one neighborhood library opened Monday through Friday paired with a nearby neighborhood library that is opened Tuesday through Saturday. For example, Queen Memorial Branch will be open Monday through Friday, and the nearby South Philadelphia Branch will be open Tuesday through Saturday.
Regional libraries will provide service Tuesdays through Saturdays, and the Parkway Central Library will be open seven days a week. For a complete list of service hours for all Free Library locations, please visit freelibrary.org or call 311.
