FREE LIBRARY’S WORKPLACE WEDNESDAYS ANNOUNCES JANUARY-FEBRUARY SESSIONS

Parkway Central career workshops cover everything from résumés to interview skills

PHILADELPHIA, December 20, 2011—The Free Library of Philadelphia’s Parkway Central Library is pleased to offer a new series of WORKPLACE Wednesday workshops beginning January 4, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. Offered in two-month series from September through June, the free workshops teach participants about all aspects of job hunting.

“WORKPLACE Wednesdays are such a valuable asset to our community,” said Siobhan A. Reardon, Free Library President and Director. “It gives our customers the skills that are necessary to navigate today’s incredibly tough job market, and we couldn’t be more proud of the program.”

During WORKPLACE Wednesdays, instructors work with adult job seekers to help them identify skills and find the right job “fit”—from there, classes focus on résumé writing, internet resources for job hunters, and interviewing skills. The new series line-up is: Skills Assessment (January 4); Career Decision Making (January 11); How to Write a Resume (January 18); Resume Critique (January 25); Job Hunting Tips & Techniques (February 1); Interviewing Skills (February 8); Emotional Barriers to Returning to School (February 15); Higher Education and Adult Learners (February 22); Library & Internet Resources for Job Seekers (February 29).

During the past 23 years, WORKPLACE Wednesdays at the Parkway Central Library have helped more than 11,000 Philadelphians with career and employment issues. Last year alone, nearly 1,000 individuals found jobs as a direct result of Library resources like the Workplace. Located on the second floor of Parkway Central, it offers public-access computers, print materials, and knowledgeable librarians to help customers.

WORKPLACE Wednesdays are held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Director’s Dining Room (Rm. 406) on the fourth floor of Parkway Central. For more information on the workshops and the Workplace, as well as sign-up details, please call 215-686-5436.

WORKPLACE Wednesdays are made possible by a generous grant from the Wrede Foundation.
