FREE LIBRARY TO HOST “LIVING LIBRARY” EVENT
CUSTOMERS CAN CHECK OUT “HUMAN BOOKS” WITH INCREDIBLE STORIES TO TELL
Philadelphia, June 6 2012—Libraries have always been home to great stories, but on June 20 the Free Library of Philadelphia will deliver those stories in a fun new way when it hosts a special “Living Library” event, during which customers can check out human “books” who have volunteered to share details of their personal and professional lives.
Customers can ask the human “books” questions about their lives, careers, passions, and interests during three 15-minute check-out periods. And they will have a wide range of human “books” to choose from, including: Stanford Thompson, Executive Director, Play On, Philly!; Ben Davis, airline pilot; Bill Clark, Executive Director, Philabundance; Kristin Cowperthwaite, emergency medicine physician in Camden; Tim Scally, homicide detective, Philadelphia Police Department; and Sarah Stolfa, Founder, Philadelphia Photo Arts Center.
“I love special events like this that really showcase the uniqueness of Free Library programming,” said Siobhan A. Reardon, President and Director, who will also be a human “book” for the event. “Our librarians and staff love to have fun and to bring great stories to life for our customers, and ‘Living Library’ is a wonderful example of them doing that in a new, creative way.”
The Free Library’s “Living Library” will be available from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. in Room 108 of the Parkway Central Library at 1901 Vine Street. No customer registration is required, and human “books” will be checked out on a first-come, first-served basis.
