FREE LIBRARY’S WORKPLACE WEDNESDAYS ANNOUNCES SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER SESSIONS

Parkway Central career workshops cover everything from résumés to interview skills

PHILADELPHIA, August 13, 2012—The Free Library of Philadelphia’s Parkway Central Library is pleased to offer a new series of Workplace Wednesday workshops beginning September 5, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. Offered in two-month series from September to June, the free workshops teach participants about all aspects of job hunting.

“Through Workplace, our customers gain the tools to help transform their lives,” says Siobhan A. Reardon, Free Library President and Director. “Workplace Wednesdays is entering its 24th season of programming this year, and that’s such a testament to the value of this incredible program .”

During Workplace Wednesdays, instructors work with adult job seekers to help them identify skills and find the right job “fit.” From there, classes focus on résumé writing, internet resources for job hunters, and interviewing skills. The new series line-up is: Skills Assessment (September 5); Career Decision Making (September 12); How to Write a Résumé (September 19); Résumé Critique (October 3); Job Hunting Tips and Techniques (October 10); Interviewing Skills (October 17); and Library and Internet Resources for Job Seekers (October 24).

Workplace Wednesdays at the Parkway Central Library have helped more than 11,000 Philadelphians with career and employment issues. In 2010, nearly 1,000 individuals found jobs as a direct result of Library resources like the Workplace. Located on the second floor of Parkway Central, it offers public-access computers, print materials, and knowledgeable librarians to help customers.

Workplace Wednesdays are held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Tech Lab (Room 14) on the fourth floor of Parkway Central. For more information on the workshops and the Workplace, as well as sign-up details, please call 215-686-5436.
