FREE LIBRARY LAUNCHES ACCESS TO E-RESOURCE LYNDA.COM

The online learning platform adds to the Library’s robust e-resources

PHILADELPHIA, August 1, 2017—The Free Library of Philadelphia is pleased to announce the launch of access to Lynda.com, an online training and learning tool for business, software, technology, and creative skills. The digital resource, part of LinkedIn, offers over 10,000 online training and development courses taught by industry experts. It serves more than 10,000 organizations and offers tutorials in five languages.

One of the Library’s strategic goals, as outlined in its current Strategic Plan, is to drive job seekers to the Library for guidance, information, and support. Lynda.com targets this goal, helping users acquire job skills, become more productive in their careers, and advance their job-search capability. Among the site’s most popular courses are iOS App Development Essentials, InDesign Secrets, Adobe Digital Publishing Essentials, and Online Marketing.  The site adds more than 25 new tutorials each week.

“Lynda.com has been on the Free Library’s wish list for a few years,” said Jamie Wilson, Orders Unit supervisor for the Free Library’s Materials Management Division. “Its variety of course choices appeals to a broad group of learners, and it is popular as a professional development tool, which we hope can attract new users to the Free Library’s digital offerings.”

Access for library cardholders to Lynda.com will begin Tuesday, September 5. Card holders can access the courses on any device by visiting freelibrary.org, clicking the link for Lynda.com, and signing in with their library card and PIN.
