Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation Appoints Marsha Perelman to Board of Directors

PHILADELPHIA, August 7, 2019— Today the Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation announced Marsha Perelman has been appointed to its Board of Directors. Ms. Perelman has long been actively involved in many prestigious Philadelphia institutions and regional philanthropy.

“We’re extremely pleased to welcome Marsha Perelman to the Board of Directors,” said Chair Barbara Sutherland. “Marsha’s wealth of knowledge of Philadelphia and its institutions, her leadership skills, and her passion for this city will be an invaluable addition to the Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation.”

Ms. Perelman is Chair Emerita of the Franklin Institute and Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Bryn Mawr Film Institute. She also chairs the Philadelphia Community Advisory Committee of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and is Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for the Fund for the School District of Philadelphia.

One of her passions is animal welfare. She is a director of the Humane Society of the United States and a member of the Pennsylvania Dog Law Advisory Board. She is a former chair of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. She was vice chair, president, and CEO of the Philadelphia Zoo.

Ms. Perelman has worked in the energy industry for more than 30 years with companies including Buckeye Pipe Line, Clearfield Energy, O’Brien Philadelphia Cogen, and Sempra Energy. In the past, she has served as director of Visit Philadelphia and PVR Partners LP and currently serves as a director of Penn Virginia Corporation. She has a BA from Northwestern University and a master’s degree in city planning from the University of Pennsylvania.
