Free Library of Philadelphia Board of Trustees Begins Search for Interim Director
PHILADELPHIA, August 6, 2020— The Free Library of Philadelphia Board of Trustees has announced the start of a search for Interim President and Director of the institution. The committee conducting the search is led by Board of Trustees member and President of the Community College of Philadelphia Dr. Donald Guy Generals.
“We are looking for a leader that can navigate the challenges of serving the community in a time of great uncertainty, creating a safe and welcoming environment for patrons and staff, and ushering the library into a new era of equity and inclusion,” Generals said.
For the full job description and qualifications, visit the Careers and Other Opportunities section of the Free Library’s website.
The Interim Director will serve until the appointment of a Permanent President and Director. A nation-wide search will be conducted and take approximately 6 months to a year.
“While the interim President and Director will be with us for a short time, they will have an opportunity to begin shaping policies while working with staff to create lasting change for a Philadelphia institution that is at a critical juncture,” Generals said.
Former President and Director Siobhan Reardon stepped aside July 23 after serving in the role since September of 2008. Leslie M. Walker, who has served as Chief of Staff for the Free Library for the past three years, is currently serving as temporary interim director.
