The Free Library Celebrates Pride Month This June

PHILADELPHIA, May 31, 2022—The Free Library of Philadelphia is proud to celebrate Pride Month with free programming throughout the month of June celebrating LGBTQ+ lives, stories, and histories. The programming includes events for all ages such as story times, crafts, book talks, and more.

Pride Take and Make Kit
All month long, while supplies last
Ramonita G. de Rodriguez Library | 600 West Girard Avenue

Come to Rodriguez Library to pick up a pride-themed take and make during the month of June! Available during open hours while supplies last.

Pride Button Making – Outdoor Event
Thursday, June 2 | 4:00 p.m.
Philadelphia City Institute Library | 1905 Locust Street

Join us at a table outside the library to make a button for Pride month! All ages are invited to participate.

Philly Gay Games Fest
Monday, June 13 | 5:30 p.m.
Walnut Street West Library | 201 South 40th Street

Come one come all to Philly Gay Games Fest, a small showcase of independent game designers in the LGBTQ+ community! Come meet the designers and play their games. There will be board games, role playing games, and more. The purpose of this event is simply to show off the talent in our community and have fun during the Pride season. This is an all-ages event.

Drag Queen Storytime with Brittany Lynn – Outdoor Event
Friday, June 17 | 11:00 a.m.
Fishtown Community Library | 1217 East Montgomery Avenue

Join us as we host Brittany Lynn for story time! This program is for children of all ages and will take place outdoors on Montgomery side of the Fishtown Rec Center.

Hugh Ryan | The Women's House of Detention: A Queer History of a Forgotten Prison
Thursday, June 23 | 7:30 p.m.
Parkway Central Library | 1901 Vine Street

In conversation with Sayeeda Rashid, Director of the Center for Gender Resources and Sexual Education at Haverford College. Hugh Ryan is the author of When Brooklyn Was Queer, a “boisterous, motley … entertaining and insightful” (The New York Times Book Review) analysis of the famous borough’s LGBTQ+ history from the 1850s to present. Winner of a New York City Book Award and a New York Times Editors' Choice, it was a finalist for the Randy Shilts and Lambda Literary Awards.

The Free Library is dedicated to inclusivity and diversity, and neighborhood libraries serve as welcoming and safe spaces for all Philadelphians. The Free Library’s digital resources include  LGBTQ+ reading lists for adults, teens, and children, with e-books that can be downloaded with a Free Library card; and podcasts of LGBTQ+ authors who have read at the Free Library.
