I'm tired of politics. I really am. You know what I need? A good laugh... and maybe you feel the same way I do? Here are some books guaranteed to give you at least a chuckle, if not a true LOL experience.

Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris
This is an older book, published in 2000, but it still holds up as deliciously funny. The book consists of essays about the author's life growing up in North Carolina (FYI - his sister is the fabulously funny Amy Sedaris). I admit to doubling over with laughter while reading the chapter "You Can't Kill the Rooster".



 

Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett
I thoroughly enjoyed this humorous tale of the initiation of the apocalypse—yes, the world-ending-all-is-lost apocalyse—but with jazz hands! This was my first Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett book and if this book is a good representation of their story telling abilities, two words come to mind: British and Funny. If you're a fan of British humor you won't be let down. If you aren't, give it a try! You will certainly get a couple chuckles from his novel.

Bossypants by Tina Fey (audiobook)
I highly recommend the audiobook version of this autobiography by Tina Fey. The audiobook is read by Tina herself and she provides great tone, various voices, and even inserted clips from Saturday Night Live (specifically her Sarah Palin skits), which you won't get (the dialog) in the book version.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
If science fiction is more your predilection, here's a great book to laugh it up in outer space. Even if you are only slightly interested in science fiction, this novel is a great starting point. The humor, interesting characters, and alien universe will surely keep you entertained. The writing style is very relaxed and you can easily read the 215 page novel in one sitting.
 

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
A great read for any and all of the following:

1. People who read fanfiction
2. Harry Potter fans 
3. "Awkward nerd" girls
4. People who enjoy stories about the first year at college
5. People like stories about loners
6. People who like fun reads

What If?: Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions by Randall Munroe
Are you familar with the web comic xkcd? The comic of "romance, sarcasm, math, and language"? If not, give it a try and if you find it interesting or at least funny, this book is for you. Author Randall Munroe answers some of life's most interesting (and weird) questions, such as "How fast can you hit a speed bump while driving and live?" and "If there was a robot apocalypse, how long would humanity last?"

 

I Could Pee on This: And Other Poems by Cats by Francesco Marciuliano
The title alone causes me to chuckle! If you are cat lover, you will appreciate the wit and humor of poems written "by" cats with their accompanying photo.

Do you enjoy your humor with expletives? Well read no further—author Justin Halpern moved back home with his parents and decided to document the wit and nonflitered wisdom of his father.
