Summer is fast approaching, and the Free Library’s Literacy Enrichment Afterschool Program (LEAP) will be winding down this month after another successful year of providing literacy enrichment activities for elementary school students, and homework assistance, computer literacy, and library skills for all students in grades K-12.
In addition to promoting traditional literacy, LEAP programs and activities encourage science, technology, and cultural arts learning as well. LEAP also introduces students to the many library resources and materials available year-round. One particularly supportive resource is Homework Help Online, which offers everything from live tutoring, in English and Spanish, to specialized test prep and even a writing lab.
While school is out, the Free Library is inviting all Philadelphia students—and their families!—to participate in the Summer of Wonder. The goal of the Summer of Wonder program is to encourage Philadelphians to read for fun and to explore learning opportunities during the summer months. It also helps children and teens combat "summer slide," so they return to school in the fall ready to learn! From June 12 through August 4, children and teens of all ages can visit their local libraries to join in the fun, learn, and win prizes, too!
The Free Library of Philadelphia supports year-round out-of-school programming for all youth. In addition, as an after-school program provider, the Free Library is part of Philadelphia’s Citywide Out-of-School Tim Initiative. The initiative is looking to hear from parents, caregivers, and the community about after-school programs, including what works, why they are so important, and much, much more. Follow the link tinyurl.com/ost-survey to participate in a 10-minute survey or take the survey over the phone by calling 267-295-7791. Those who provide feedback are eligible to win a $50 gift card!
