The Free Library has many resources and programs for Philadelphians of all ages to improve their reading skills!

• Read, Baby, Read is a Free Library initiative focused on encouraging early literacy development among infants and young toddlers (0-24 months old).
   
• Read by 4th is a citywide effort managed by the library that aims to significantly increase the number of students in Philadelphia entering the 4th grade at reading level through family, community, and school-based programs and supports.
   
• Homework Help Online (Tutor.com) provides free, live tutoring every day from 10:00 a.m. to 12 midnight (Spanish 2:00 p.m. - 2:00 a.m.) for K-12, college, and adult learners. This service includes trained reading tutors for elementary, middle, high school, and college. 
   
• Universal Class provides access to online continuing education courses for adults in a wide variety of subjects, including Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary Building, Speed Reading, and Teaching Reading. 

Starting in January 2022, the Languages and Learning Center is adding a new virtual program to support adults looking to improve their reading skills: Online Adult Reading Comprehension Learning Circle. This virtual study group will work with adults to improve their reading skills using a free online course offered by Universal Class. Each week learners will study on their own using the Universal Class lessons and activities. 

The group will meet through Zoom on Thursdays from 12:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m. to practice reading skills and share successes and struggles. The course runs from January 20 through May 12.
