Central Senior Services Hosts Exciting, Informative Seminars

By Anthony T. RSS Mon, March 11, 2024

At the Free Library of Philadelphia, learning has no age, and the Senior Services Department at Parkway Central ensures that the Library’s mission to advance literacy, guide learning, and inspire curiosity extends to patrons in every stage of life.

Central Senior Services provides large-print books ranging from the latest popular novels to fascinating non-fiction books. With a great selection of current magazines, comfortable furniture, and classic films, there isn’t a better place to relax and unwind. There are also compelling workshops and public learning programs offered to help lifelong learners pick up new hobbies and interests. Two of these exciting seminars, "Seeking Justice” and “An Introduction to Africa,” will be presented virtually on Zoom later this month.

On Friday, March 15 at 11:00 a.m. the program Seeking Justice: A Candid Conversation with a Federal Prosecutor will feature a dialogue between Sara Aliabadi, Deputy Attorney-in-Charge of the Camden Office of the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Free Library’s own Dick Levinson. Aliabadi, who supervises 12 prosecutors in the District of New Jersey, will discuss her experiences during a decade-long career of prosecuting federal criminal cases.

On Wednesday, March 20 at 11:00 a.m. An Introduction to Africa will feature a comprehensive history of the continent presented by UPenn Professor of Sociology and star of PBS’s History Detectives, Dr. Tukufu Zuberi. Dr. Zuberi will apply his educational expertise to topics like Africa’s rich ancient history, the imperial legacy of Britain and France, and the distinctions between East and West Africa.
