A Game of Thrones

By Camille T. RSS Thu, April 14, 2011

The other day I saw a preview for a new show on HBO called Game of Thrones. I was intrigued because it featured medieval costumes, talk about honor, swords, and multiple and seemingly complex plot lines – just what any fantasy fan would want, right? Not to mention I wanted to know who or what these mysterious “white walkers” were everyone kept whispering about.

Of course I had to jump on the computer and “google” around for more information, and--not surprisingly--this show is based on a bestselling novel, A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin. I have to admit to not knowing much about this author besides the fact that his fans are impatiently waiting for the next novel in the series. One of our librarians created this booklist: If you liked A Feast of Crows by George R. R. Martin - Tired of waiting for a sequel that may never come? These excellent series have all either finished or have sequels with confirmed dates, ensuring that you won’t be left hanging.

The new show starts April 17th so I will attempt to finish the book before it starts!

Have you read the series? Are you going to watch the new show?

I have never subscribed to HBO in my life, but I have now subscribed because they are offering this series! I've been a fan of the books since A Game of Thrones was published in the mid 90s. In fact, A Game of Thrones still ranks as the best book I've ever read. And, I've been waiting for book five since 2004. Word is it will finally be published in July 2011. I've also been following the making of the HBO series at http://winter-is-coming.net/page/4/ where they have lots of interviews, articles and links plus a countdown clock to the time of the premiere. So, yes, I WILL be watching Sunday night. I'm hoping HBO does the series justice.
