Are you a young adult who loves the Free Library? Join the Raven Society!
By Rebecca F. Fri, May 27, 2011Looking to get to know a great group of people who love the Library, too?
The Raven Society, the Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation’s young supporters in their 20s and 30s who make a $50 annual gift, is a wonderful group for library and literary lovers alike who are passionate about supporting the Free Library and advancing literacy in the greater Philadelphia region.
The Raven Society has many fun and exclusive events every year. For instance, in just a few weeks, on Wednesday, June 8 at 7:00 p.m. the Raven Society will host a spelling bee to support children’s literacy and the Library’s Summer Reading program. The event, which will be held at Bob & Barbara’s Lounge, will feature snacks, prizes, and literary fun for all. The suggested donation for attending is $5, which includes snacks and extended happy hour specials. Attendees who are not part of the Raven Society can also use their donation toward a membership in the Raven Society.
There will be prizes for the top three spellers—including a $25 cash prize for the winner, courtesy of Bob & Barbara’s—as well as consolation prizes for all participants. Attendees do not have to participate in the spelling bee. Those would like to participate must register in advance to raven@freelibrary.org. Hurry, space is limited! You must be 21 or older to attend this event at Bob and Barbara’s Lounge.
Throughout the year, members of the Raven Society gather together for fun events like this, including happy hours, invitation-only author receptions, and the annual Poe Birthday Celebration. To find out more, click here!
