On Friday, June 17, librarians from the Free Library of Philadelphia will partner with the School District of Philadelphia to visit area classrooms and speak to schoolchildren about the importance of reading over the summer--and get them excited for Summer Reading at the Free Library! Studies have shown that by reading six or more books over the summer months, students will keep their reading skills fresh and at the appropriate grade level. At the Rally, students will learn about the Library's renowned Summer Reading game, in which they can earn special prizes by reading books and participating in fun Library programs throughout the summer.
And don't forget: The Free Library also offers Summer Reading activities for teens and adults, too, so everyone can join in the fun!

Please note: Due to this outreach effort, all branches of the Free Library of Philadelphia system, excluding Parkway Central Library, will be opening at 12:00 noon on Friday, June 17.
Parkway Central will open at its regular time--9:00 a.m.--though the Central Children's Department will be closed until noon. There will be a selection of children’s materials available in the second floor hallway during the morning hours.
Patrons can renew books, place holds, and download media at freelibrary.org, 24 hours a day.
