One of the great traditions of the holiday season is food shopping.   This can be a real chore with a preschooler.   Before you go shopping  try reading one of these charming books about trips to the market.  Talk with your child about how you will be going shopping.  Then as you shop narrate your trip through the store.   For example – “now we’re getting to the store, look we’re shopping for vegetables just like the characters in the book, soon we’ll be checking out with the cashier”.   Your child might not understand you just yet but hopefully now shopping is a game and a story. Do you have any favorite books about shopping or food – please share them in the comments!

Llama Llama Mad at Mama is a great book for a shopping trip! Children and adults can laugh at Llama's temper tantrums while shopping, and that may help diffuse real temper tantrums at the store. I like the idea of making a trip to the store into a narrative. That seems like it would make the time fly by for everyone. I'm going to try that the next time we have a grocery run!

Shopping online has become apart of everyday life but many still worry that their credit card details will land in the wrong hands. Online shopping is certainly here to stay and online security continues to advance. There are arguments that shopping online can be safer than shopping over the phone or even in person, as you never hand your card details over to another person. Just remember to follow these tips to help keep your online shopping a safe and secure experience.
