While older children are getting ready to go back to school next week here in Philadelphia, we haven't forgotten about our pre-k set!
This month's Early Literacy calendar and links, compiled by Free Library of Philadelphia's children's librarians, is full of great suggestions that parents and caregivers can engage in with their children to help nurture and develop the five necessary Early Literacy skills of Reading, Writing, Talking, Singing, and Playing.

Besides the above suggestions, now that September is here, fall isn't far away. There are plenty of fun and unique holidays you can celebrate this month with the children in your life including International Literacy Day on September 8th; give a hug to your favorite stuffed animal on National Teddy Bear Day on September 9th; make something cool with your hands on National Play-Doh Day on September 16th; and show some peace, love, and understanding on International Peace Day on September 21st.
Stop in at your local neighborhood library and ask a children's librarian for more tips and suggestions on Early Literacy; we're always here to help!
