Ahhh… Fall is finally in the air! Time to get out your jackets, scarves, and galoshes!
This month's Early Literacy calendar and links, compiled by Free Library of Philadelphia's children's librarians, is full of great suggestions that parents and caregivers can engage in with their children to help nurture and develop the five necessary Early Literacy skills of Reading, Writing, Talking, Singing, and Playing.

October is full of fun holidays, including the spookiest one of all on October 31st: Halloween! There are plenty of fun and unique holidays you can celebrate this month with the children in your life: Rev it up for National Motorcycle Ride Day on October 8th; read some great poetry for Black Poetry Day on October 17th—try The Blacker the Berry by Joyce Carol Thomas; and snuggle up with your favorite furry friend on National Cat Day on October 29th.
Stop in at your local neighborhood library and ask a children's librarian for more tips and suggestions on Early Literacy; we're always here to help!
