October 2017 Early Literacy Calendar

By Sarah S. RSS Wed, October 4, 2017

October is here and we are falling into lots of fun and free Fall activities and events here at the Free Library!

Traditional and unique holidays throughout October include World Smile Day the first Friday of the month, World Teacher's Day on October 5, and a superstiously seasonable Friday the 13th as a lead-up to Halloween this year!

Another highlight this month is the Hindu festival, Diwali. This 5-day long celebration is full of lots of colors, fireworks, and candles. The third day of the festival, falling on October 19, is the Festival of Lights. You can celebrate here in Philly at the International House on Wednesday, October 11 with food, music, and dance for the whole family!

This month's Early Literacy calendar and links, compiled by Free Library of Philadelphia's children's librarians, is full of great suggestions that parents and caregivers can engage in with their children to help nurture and develop necessary Early Literacy skills!
