Are you passionate about serving diverse populations in an urban public library setting? Are you ready for all that Philadelphia has to offer? If so, than please consider this community-focused librarian position housed within a large, municipal library system consisting of 54 neighborhood locations. Each neighborhood library has its own unique vibe and connection to its community. We expect to hire upwards of 25 librarians in this cycle, so this is a great time to explore this Philadelphia opportunity!

Philadelphia is a historic, multicultural, and vibrant city which offers opportunities for engaging with intergenerational and cross-cultural communities. As a librarian and a member of our team, you will be responsible for providing mission-driven, exceptional customer service and engaging with our communities in a way that advances literacy, guides learning, and inspires curiosity. Your contribution to your community will include:

  • Fostering positive relationships and collaborations with community partners
  • Enthusiastically engaging with our youth population
  • Conducting outreach to schools and community groups
  • Providing digital, electronic, and traditional reference services to customers
  • Developing programming to meet community wants, needs, and aspirations
  • Collaborating with Friends’ groups, volunteers, and civic associations
  • Serving in an Acting Library Supervisor capacity as needed
  • Facilitating special projects and other duties as assigned

Experience and enthusiasm in working with children and teens is absolutely vital. Candidates who are fluent in Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic, Russian, Vietnamese, Khmer, Korean, French, Haitian-Creole, or American Sign Language (ASL) are encouraged to apply. In addition to being a union-represented position with pension and generous retirement savings options, City of Philadelphia employment benefits include paid vacation, sick leave, and 11 holidays per year. The salary as of July 1, 2019 will be $46,926. Additionally, upon successful completion of probationary periods, there is a $1000 bonus after three months and another $1000 bonus after one year. Further, after one year, this position auto-promotes to a salary of $51,458.
