Free Library staff at Tacony
Today as part of National Library Week, we’re joining with the American Library Association (ALA) in celebrating National Library Workers Day and the real heroes behind who we are and what we do: our librarians and staff!
Today is a day to recognize the myriad contributions made by Free Library staff, those who work tirelessly to make possible our mission of advancing literacy, guiding learning, and inspiring curiosity each and every day in Philadelphia and beyond. From offering social service support, health resources, small business development, and programs for our city’s littlest learners, to keeping our facilities safe and clean and providing digital resource support to customers and seemingly everything in between, our library staff members provide opportunities for engagement, enrichment, and development for all.
We are especially grateful to our staff during this difficult time of quarantine. With our 54 locations currently closed until health concerns subside, they have risen to the challenge and are adapting your favorite Free Library events and programs into online experiences for all to enjoy. From storytimes to crafts, cooking classes to Author Events, there's something for library lovers of all ages. Check out our new Virtual Programs page and follow the instructions for participating.
If you want to let library staff know that you appreciate their efforts, share some love about the virtual service or electronic resource you're most enjoying! Post to Instagram, Twitter, or on the I Love Libraries Facebook page about an ebook, audiobook, virtual storytime, or how your library has made a difference while you've been social distancing at home. Use the hashtag #ThankYouLibraries and tag @FreeLibrary in your post! The ALA will gather all the entries, and one randomly selected winner will receive a $100 Visa gift card! We can't wait to hear from you!
So join us in giving a big thank you to our Free Library staff – we truly couldn’t do it without them, especially now!
