Magazines for Kids on RBdigital

Like me, you may already use RBdigital for its great selection of magazines for adults. But did you know that all four magazines in the Highlights family are available to read online? With kids unable to access the latest issue of their favorite magazine at the library right now, RBdigital allows young readers and their caregivers to read Highlights' magazines from home.

For our youngest library users, there's Hello, Highlights's publication for children from birth to 2 years of age. Each issue follows a special theme (for the month of June, the theme is: Summer) and is filled with real pictures of babies, which your little one will love. Baby and caregiver can read short and colorfully illustrated stories, find images together, and learn simple vocabulary. Every section includes a tip for caregivers that explains how to expand on each activity at home.

High Five is geared towards children ages 2 through 6. Poems, comics, and stories to share fill each issue; some are even written by readers like you. The June issue features a nonfiction story about lemon trees written by a mother and her young son in Florida. Age-appropriate puzzles, like spot-the-difference and hidden pictures are fun to do together, and crafts and recipes will give you great ideas for activities at home. For Spanish-speaking families or those learning the language, High Five Bilingüe is a terrific read for the same age group. The text is in both Spanish and English and the content is similar to High Five, but with different themes each month. June's issue takes us on a trip to the zoo and encourages kids to say hola to animal friends.

You're probably most familiar with Highlights, the original publication for children and tweens ages 6 through 12-years-old. In fact, some of our parents out there may have read Highlights when you were young (I'm raising my hand). Highlights features stories, puzzles, and crafts that older kids can do on their own and our younger friends can do with the family. Highlights also includes sections on science and history, and lots of content by its kid-readers. June's issue is filled with ideas on how to use pool noodles for crafts and games to get you into the summer mindset.
