People have had a fascination with haunted houses for centuries. This year, the Torresdale Library has taken their Haunted House online!
These spooky places fill us with chills as spirits and ghosts slide through hallways, knocking spoons and plates off kitchen counters, and making our televisions cut to screens of rolling static. Philadelphia has its own share of haunted places, including the Baleroy Mansion, Eastern State Penitentiary, and the Physick House. That said, one of Philadelphia's finest haunted houses is at a library in the Far Northeast.
Each year, the Torresdale Library has created its own Haunted House to explore around Halloween. Lines would extend with hundreds of adults and children looking to immerse themselves into a chilling world of zombies, vampires, and witches. Among the attractions from past Haunted Houses included a devious cemetery, a "CarnEvil" led by a "wicked ringmaster", and a "Fairytale Forest". At the end of the tour, kids would recover from fear with a healthy dose of Halloween candy.
While exploring the sinister rooms of this year's virtual haunted house, you will discover storytimes with witches, creepy crafts, yummy recipes, and you might even stumble into a few spooky encounters with denizens of the stacks.
We hope to see you in person next Halloween, but for now, a virtual Haunted House awaits you... if you dare!
