The official Rant press release from Doubleday, Chuck Palahniuk's publisher, claims that Palahniuk's "writing has been known to induce fainting and his events have the feel of a rock concert attended by hundreds of devoted groupies." Intrigued? Palahniuk will be stopping by the Central Library this Thursday as part of a 14-city U.S. tour in support of Rant , his recently published eighth novel. (If you're unfamiliar with Palahniuk, he's the bestselling author of Fight Club, Survivor, Invisible Monsters, Choke, Lullaby, Diary, and Haunted.) This event promises to be memorable. Posts on Palahniuk's official website indicate that the author is sponsoring a "Wedding Dress Contest," inviting audience members at each tour stop (women and men) to don wedding gowns--Palahniuk will select one winner at each event to receive an unspecified "spectacular gift." Also, at his San Francisco appearance last week, Palahniuk apparently launched inflatable moose heads into the crowd. If that doesn't spark your curiosity, I don't know what else to tell you.
Chuck Palahniuk will be appearing at the Central Library's Montgomery Auditorium on Thursday, May 10 at 8:00 p.m. This event is free; no tickets required.
