The Education, Philosophy, and Religion Department strives to offer engaging and informative programs that touch on the wide variety of topics included within our collection of materials. Our upcoming program, The Message of Swami Vivekananda: An Interfaith Reading Group is the first program we’re offering in 2023. We believe this program will continue our tradition.

Swami Vivekananda visited the United States near the end of the 19th Century where he established the practice of Vedanta. His teachings were influential to both the famous and non-famous; his practitioners range from John D. Rockefeller to W.E.B. DuBois to J.D. Salinger. This series is in commemoration of the 130th anniversary of his rousing and eloquent speech at the Parliament of Religions in Chicago

The goal of this series is to promote interfaith unity while exploring Hinduism in-depth. As with most of our programs at the Free Library of Philadelphia, this series is free and open to the public. The series will run from February 28–April 18 on Tuesday evenings at 6:00 PM and will be led by Dr. Deven Patel of Penn and facilitated by Dr. Divya Nair.

Registration is required and we will be meeting virtually via Zoom. We hope to see you there.
