Do you want to use your knowledge and experience to give back to the Philadelphia community? Then consider becoming a tutor with the Free Library of Philadelphia!
The Free Library is looking for tutors to help adults strengthen their reading and writing skills. We welcome tutors of all skill levels but are especially seeking those with experience helping adult learners with reading and writing for high school equivalency preparation and/or English language learning.
Before being matched with a learner, tutors complete a free 10–12 hour training hosted by subject matter experts. Once matched, tutors will have the support of the Free Library’s Languages and Learning Center and will have access to ongoing professional development opportunities through the Office of Children and Families.
Tutors and learners are matched based on their availability, skills, and learning needs. All match sessions happen in person at a Free Library location with a Languages and Learning Center staff member present. After the initial session, the tutor and learner decide when and where to meet next.
If you are interested in becoming a tutor, please complete the Free Library Volunteer Application and the Office of Children and Families ‘Next Level Learning’ Tutor Training Form.
If you would like to request a reading and/or writing tutor, please fill out our Intake Form.
