An adrenaline rush is defined as a physical feeling of intense excitement and stimulation caused by the release of adrenaline from the adrenal glands. That’s gnarly! Do you know what else is gnarly? Learning how to skateboard!

The Cecil B. Moore Library in partnership with The Philadelphia Skateboard Academy joined forces to provide Philadelphia’s youth with skateboarding lessons, where kids can learn all the tips and tricks and experience their own adrenaline rush.

Participants aged 10–17 can join us at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation Center (2101 Cecil B. Moore Avenue) on Mondays from 4:00 pm–5:30 p.m. from April 15, 2024 to May 20, 2024.

Parental permission is required. Whether you're a total beginner or have some experience on a board, our workshop series is tailored to accommodate skaters of all levels. Best of all, it's free to attend — just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to learn!

Budding skaters will learn the essential techniques needed to conquer the skate park with confidence. From mastering the art of balance and foot placement to executing basic maneuvers like the ollie and kickturn, our skilled instructors will provide hands-on guidance every step of the way.

This series it not just about learning to skate — it's about building confidence, fostering creativity, and making memories that will last a lifetime.

Plus, by attending all six parts of the series, participants will walk away with their own brand-new skateboard to continue their skateboarding journey long after the workshop ends!
