Danticat on Diaz, Both to Appear at Central in September
By Communications Office Wed, August 1, 2007The New Yorker does a great monthly podcast as part of its Out Loud series, wherein a contemporary author of note presents a favorite short story from the magazine's fiction archives. A reading of the selected short story is followed by a critical discussion during which the presenting author explains why they appreciate the work for both literary and personal reasons. This past June's installment features Edwidge Danticat--author of Breath, Eyes, Memory--presenting Junot Diaz's short story, “How to Date a Brown Girl (Black Girl, White Girl, or Halfie).” Listen to the whole thing here . (And subscribe to this free podcast series, and others, here .) Both Edwidge Danticat and Junot Diaz will be appearing at the Central Library's Montgomery Auditorium in September. Diaz will appear on Tuesday, September 11, at 7:00 p.m.--this event is free; no tickets required. Danticat will appear on Tuesday, September 25, at 8:00 p.m.--individual tickets for this event will be available for purchase on September 10 ($14.00 for general admission, $7.00 for students, $6.00 for simulcast seating at sold out events only), or contact Author Events at (215) 567-4341 for Author Events Ticketed Series subscription package information.

Yes, I love the New Yorker fiction podcast! Once a month is not nearly enough. I have yet to find another that's as interesting. If you know of any others, let me know. You guys should have a section about the contributors, although I understand if you want to maintain a more professional, faceless type blog.
