Exploding Snap of the Mind, Northeast Regional Presents Harry Potter and the Multi-Library Tournament

By Communications Office RSS Mon, August 13, 2007

What were the names of the two wizarding schools that competed with Hogwarts in the Triwizard Tournament, and what were the names of their headmasters? If you just excitedly produced an answer to this question, mark your calendar for this Wednesday, August 15 at 6:30 p.m. when the Northeast Regional Library will be hosting its own wizardly challenge, "Harry Potter and the Multi-Library Tournament."

In the preceding months, all 12 northeast area Free Library locations held Harry Potter trivia contests to determine their individual branch champions. More than 200 teens submitted themselves to a demanding exam with questions drawn from the six Harry Potter novels published at the time. On Wednesday these 12 champions will test their knowledge further as they compete against one another in a live, four-part, game show-style Q&A match, featuring bewitching decorations and costumes, and drawing questions from all seven Harry Potter books.

Prior to competition, contestants will undergo a "Sorting Hat ceremony" wherein they will be assigned to represent one of Hogwarts' Houses. The top three performers after three rounds of questions will go on to compete in a final round to determine the Northeast Area Champion, as well as first and second runners-up. The winner will receive a $500 U.S. Savings Bond from tournament sponsor Fox Chase Bank; first and second runners-up will receive $250 and $100 U.S. Savings Bonds respectively. (Non-northeast area Free Library staff will serve as impartial judges to determine the sufficiency of contestants' answers.)
