READ On

Here in the Communications and Development department, we’ve got Yo-Yo Ma, Oprah, Rosie O’Donnell, and Denzel Washington hanging out. Okay, fine, not literally - they’re on our walls courtesy of the American Library Association’s Celebrity READ posters. Now, thanks to an easy-to-upload template, you can create your own READ mini-posters for your bookshelves at home. Head over to the ALA page, choose one of the four templates, upload a photo of yourself (or your friend, or your sibling, or your pet…), add text, and voila! You have your very own READ mini-poster.

For the poster hanging at my desk, I chose a photo from the extensive collection compiled on Parkway Central Library's 75th Anniversary site. Want to take a rich photographic trip through history? Click here, and select "Photographic Prints" under the "Media or Format Type" option.

That's great. I think its a wonderful idea to make it more exciting to get kids to read, a poster with some of their favorite celebs sure couldnt hurt.
