From the Archives: Barack Obama's Visit to Parkway Library

By Shannon G Fri, January 16, 2009

Do you have any plans to celebrate the historic inauguration next week? Parkway Central will have a television set up in the Main Lobby, so feel free to stop by on Tuesday to catch a glimpse of history in the making.

We’re also excited to present a video from President Elect Barack Obama’s visit to the Library two years ago. While promoting his book, The Audacity of Hope, the President Elect spoke to an audience of more than 600 at Parkway Central shortly before he announced his intention to run for President.

Check out our exclusive clip below to hear what our next President has to say about the important role libraries play in our lives!

Washington Post estimates that 4 million to 5 million people could jam downtown Washington on Inauguration Day, saying it is more likely that the crowd will be about half that size. I look forward to witness this historical event!!!

I'm not sure that I trust any of the predictions, but I do know that for every person who comes, thousands more will be participating from home in spirit. If you know someone who may need a for this historical event in Washington DC, I highly recommend www.rentalo.com website to find affordable lodging, althought it may be tough by now to find vacancies, but give it a try.

It great that you are helping to share this inauguration with more Philadelphia residents by having the TV in your library. -
