Born to immigrant parents in Philadelphia, WWII hero Dr. Bernard Bail, who was shot down over Nazi Germany, began a secret affair with a German nurse that inspired his work at the forefront of psychoanalytic thought continuing where Freud left off—pioneering a theory that honors the equality of women and pinpoints the origins of mental illness.
