Held virtually via Zoom, on April 9th at 6pm, the Free Library of Philadelphia’s Edwin A. Fleisher Collection of Orchestral Music and Literature Department will host Shakespeare is for Everyone! The theme this year will focus on exploring Shakespeare's influence on Classical Music and elements of the most popular Shakespeare-inspired compositions. Joining the conversation will be Dr. Alisha Nypaver and Dr. Lily Kass, both Shakespeare and music scholars from Temple University.

Dr. Lily Kass
Lily Kass is an interdisciplinary scholar and educator whose work focuses on the diverse ways in which musical and theatrical works are reimagined, adapted, and translated to meet the needs of new audiences. She earned an A.B. in Literature from Harvard University in 2010 studying with Daniel Albright, author of Musicking Shakespeare and a Ph.D. in Musicology from the University of Pennsylvania in 2017. Lily teaches musicology courses at institutions across the Mid-Atlantic region. The seminars she has developed, which include “Shakespeare and Music,” “Powerful Women in Opera,” “Mozart’s Operas,” and “Exoticism on the Musical Stage,” seek to empower students to engage with the canon of Western Classical Music through research, analysis, and critique. In addition, Lily is a trained coloratura soprano and sings as a Marian Anderson Scholar Artist with the National Marian Anderson Museum and Historical Society.
Dr. Alisha Nypaver
Alisha Nypaver, Ph.D., is a faculty member in the Music Studies department at Temple University, specializing in large general education courses, online learning, and pedagogy in higher education. Her dissertation explored the convergence of traditional classroom teaching and the teaching methods of YouTube music studies content creators. Dr. Nypaver also created and teaches "The Sounds of Philadelphia," a Race and Diversity General education course exploring the lives and careers of musicians, producers, and songwriters connected to the Philadelphia region through a sociological lens that centers and contextualizes issues related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and power throughout history. She also teaches courses in Music History, Shakespeare and Music, World Musics and Cultures, and Music and Society. In addition to her teaching and new course development work, Nypaver serves as a Quality Matters online course reviewer and is the Online Coordinator for the Department of General Education at Temple University. She is the current president of the Northeast Chapter of the College Music Society.
