BookCraft: The Art of Handmade Sketchbook Creation is a unique, hands-on class designed for artists and enthusiasts who wish to explore the traditional craft of bookmaking. In this workshop, led by experienced instructor Jo Gamel, participants will learn the intricacies of crafting their own sketchbooks. The class covers essential techniques, including cutting and preparing paper, bookbinding, and creating personalized covers. Students will actively engage in each step, from measuring and cutting paper to stitching and attaching covers, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the process. This class not only imparts practical skills but also fosters creativity and a deeper appreciation for handmade artistry. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or a curious beginner, this class offers a fulfilling experience in the art of sketchbook creation.
All tools and supplies will be provided, however, participants are welcome to bring any of their own bookmaking materials.

Jo Gamel, a Philadelphia-based mixed-media artist, combines her creative flair and educational prowess in her multifaceted career. She has imparted her artistic knowledge at Moore College and currently curates at the Crown of Creation gallery. Recently, her work was featured at the Magic Gardens museum and the prestigious Louvre during Art Basel Paris. Beyond creating art, Jo owns Tutor of the Arts, an arts education programming business. Her twin passions are teaching art and spending time with her beloved colorful parrots.
