“Thoroughly wonderful and important” (NPR Books), Joyce Carol Oates has mentored countless young writers and produced an astonishing body of work, including nearly 60 novels, more than 30 short story collections, eight volumes of poetry, plays, and innumerable essays and book reviews. Her many distinctions include the National Book Award for them, the National Book Critics Circle Ivan Sandrof Lifetime Achievement Award, and Pulitzer Prize nominations for three of her novels: Black Water, What I Lived For, and Blonde. In her insightful new memoir, the literary luminary maps the landscapes of her hardscrabble rural childhood.
We recently learned there will be no street parking around the library at this event, as the city plans to begin towing for the Papal visit on Sunday, 9/20. We recommend public transportation, however the Philadelphia Parking Authority lot behind the Library will be open: Callowhill St. between 19th and 20th Streets: 215-683-9813. If you prefer to trade your tickets for another event, please email our office with your choice. The event must be this season, and not already sold out. Alternatively, please consider donating your ticket and watching the livestream here.
