Sampling History: Whiskeys of Pennsylvania
Map Collection at Parkway Central Library
Explore the history of Pennsylvania whiskey at this 21+ fundraising event!
Inspired by the exhibition “Our Five Senses,”* the Map Collection and the Children’s Literature Research Collection want to give you a taste of Pennsylvania history by bringing together special collections, regional distillers and their whiskeys.
The event will feature a lively panel discussion by leading regional distillers (Dad’s Hat Whiskey, Manatawny Still Works, and Wigle Whiskey), supplemented by a presentation of materials from the Free Library of Philadelphia’s Special Collections, and a tasting featuring six distinct whiskeys. Topics will include: the history of whiskey in Pennsylvania, the Whiskey Rebellion Trail, the process of making whiskey, and the resurgence of craft distilling in the region.
Event location: Skyline Room, Parkway Central Library, 1901 Vine Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
Tickets are $20 and must be purchased in advance. Tickets will not be sold onsite. To purchase tickets, visit this link. Proceeds will help fund preservation efforts in the Map Collection.
Must be 21 or older to attend. All attendees must bring valid government-issued ID for admittance to the event.
*Currently on display in the exhibition, "Our Five Senses,” is the Map Collection’s Sanborn’s Atlas of Whiskey Warehouses from 1894! Be sure to check it out!
