Reinhold Weimar Goll was born on March 20, 1897, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1917 to 1918. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 1921 and a Master’s degree in 1923, both in education from Temple University. In 1930, he received his Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania. He married Florence M. Leipe on September 30, 1919 and the couple had three children, Robert, Florence, and Richard. Most of his books, including The Visitors From Planet Veta (1961), Spaceship to Planet Veta (1962), and Through Space to Planet T. (1963), were science fantasies for young adults. Valley Forge Rebel was inspired by many visits to Valley Forge with his children and by Dr. Goll's belief that "American youngsters know too little of the great sacrifices made to win American independence." He worked in the Philadelphia public school system for 48 years as a teacher at the Elverson Elementary School and as principal at the Disston Elementary School and the Farrell Elementary School. He died on October 18, 1993.
