This 1907 image of trolley cars on Market Street is from the Library’s collection of photographs by John Gibb Smith—a mechanical engineer and Philadelphia resident, with a particular interest in trolley cars. Seen above the trolleys is a pedestrian bridge which crossed Market Street at 15th Street, connecting the Arcade Building on the right and Broad Street Station on the left. (These structures were ultimately demolished in the 1950s-60s).
