Philadelphia Convention Hall was built in 1931, an Art Deco landmark designed by architect Philip H. Johnson. This May 1931 photograph shows an interior view of the unfinished building. It was host to national political conventions, music concerts, speaking engagements, and sports events. With the construction of the Spectrum (1967) and the Pennsylvania Convention Center (1993), Convention Hall became obsolete, closing in 1996 and razed in 2005.
