Image taken by Philadelphia Evening Bulletin photographer Charles T. Higgins.  Notes on the negative's envelope read:  "Dec. 1953; aerial views, WCAU-TV radio station, City Line and Monument Ave"

This December 1953 image shows an aerial view of Philadelphia's radio and television station WCAU-AM-FM-TV.  In 1952, the broadcasting station was moved from its Center City location at 1622 Arch Street, to this new facility in Bala Cynwyd, located at City Line & Monument Avenues.  The building was the first structure in the United States built specifically as a television studio.  One of distinguished Philadelphia architect George Howe's last designs, the building was a sleek, state-of-the-art glass and metal structure.  As of 2018, WCAU's operations moved back into the City, to the Comcast Center.  The vacated building was purchased in 2021, with no immediate plans for its use.
