Although undated, this image was found to have been taken on May 14, 1968. It shows protesters in North Philadelphia, in the vicinity of 22nd Street & Columbia Avenue (today, Cecil B. Moore Avenue), preparing to march four miles to a rally being held at Independence Mall. Called the Poor People's Campaign, the rally in Philadelphia was a gathering point for contingents of the march, mainly from Philadelphia, Camden, and Trenton, before heading on buses the next day to Washington, DC. The major issues addressed employment and income fairness, non-violent protest, better low-income housing, and other anti-poverty programs.
