This item appeared in the exhibition "Sacred Stories: The World's Religious Traditions" in the Rare Book Department, August 2015-January 2016.
This is the label from that exhibition:
This leaf, a commentary on Luke 9:32-38, was originally part of a larger commentary written by the great English Christian theologian the Venerable Bede (d. 735). This fragment survives today because it was recycled; at one point used as a binding for a book half its size. The leaf was landscape oriented and wrapped around the smaller volume. The impression from the edges of the smaller book’s covers and spine are still visible in the creases around the leaf’s outer edges and across its middle.
