SWORDS INTO PLOWSHARES---AUTOMOTIVE STYLE---Pictured above is an
outstanding example of the automobile industry's version of converting swords into
plowshares. Shown below is the metal finish line at Fisher Body's Pontiac, Mich.
plant. On this very line, during the war, (panel above) pedestals for the 90mm gun
were manufactured by this General Motors unit on an assembly line basis, the first
time the assembly of an intricate gun of such a large caliber had been accomplished
on a moving conveyor. Bodies now are being produced at this plant at a
steadily-increasing rate.
